Meredith & Tom's Trip to California

Day 6: Glenwood Springs, CO to Zion National Park, UT

Distance: 565 miles
Driving Time: 7 hours

Highlights

Well, the time change is really throwing us off. I woke up by 6:30am and Tom was up by 7. Even Ham was wide awake and running around. We spent some morning time in Glenwood Springs having breakfast and taking some new photos of the hot springs. We were back in the car by 9am. The drive was pretty scenic and we spent most of the day taking pictures. There were some funny moments were we stopped in small towns and noticed a house that sold only rocks, a Jesus Saves community billboard and a local church made out of a trailer...By mid afternoon we stopped for lunch and found a nice park to let Ham run around. The best part has been watching the weather climb to higher temperatures. It was 65 degrees when we were on the playground. We finally reached Zion Park, UT just before dark. Tom didn't warn me about this part of the drive. It was absolutely breathtaking, seeing these enormous rock formations. However, it was extremely steep with really no baracades on the sides of the road. Plus, we entered this five mile long DARK tunnel through a huge mountain which seriously scared the heck out of me! In the end it was worth it though. I've never seen anything like it before and we have some great pictures. We found a nice restaurant and lodge to eat and spend the night in just outside the park. I think we both fell asleep by 9pm!
