Ingredients
2-1/8
cups - Unbleached flour
2/3 cup - Sugar
1/2 tsp - Baking powder
3/4 cup - Butter, soft
1 - Egg (unbeaten)
2 tsp - Vanilla |
Instructions
Pre-heat
oven to 350-375 degrees.
Sift together the flour, sugar and baking powder. Then, blend
in the butter, egg and vanilla.
Place on lightly floured board. Divide into four parts, shape
each into roll - 13" long x ¾" thick.
Place on ungreased sheets, 4" apart, 2" from edge. Thyra's
note: You can put all four on one large jelly roll --crosswise--or
two reg jelly roll lengthwise.
Make a depression ¼-1/3" deep. Fill with red jelly or jam-about
1/3 cup full. Make a ditch w/table
knife 3/4 through the center - and fill with red jelly or jam
about 1/3 cup or more. (Put in plastic
baggie and mush to make more fluid -cut off corner and squeeze
into ditch.)
Bake 15-20 min, just until edges start to turn golden. While warm
cut diagonally-about 1" wide.
